We’re searching for a strong, intelligent, experienced leader who sees the finance department as central in shaping business strategy.

MONZO is an exciting combination of bank and tech start-up, started from scratch in February 2015 to build a bank you’d be proud to call your own. We’re focused on solving problems, rather than selling financial products, making your financial life simpler, and giving you complete control from your smartphone.

We’re at the start of our journey to serve a billion people and we’ve made some good progress. We have 200 staff, half a million lovely customers and a UK banking licence. We've recently raised £70m of investment and our mission over the next 18 months is to use that funding to build a profitable, sustainable business. That’s where you come in.

You will spend your time owning all things ‘finance’. Your team will be responsible for everything from management and financial accounting, accounts payable, regulatory returns, capital and liquidity management to treasury strategy. You'll control overall financial projections, set company-wide budgets (totalling £50m a year), and ensure individual teams operate within that budget. You'll ensure financial controls are in place to keep the business operating in line with its overall risk-appetite, and make certain the business is fully compliant with all legal and regulatory financial requirements. You'll be responsible for our outsourced accounting and audit partners, and will decide the best operating model going forwards.

Alongside the CEO, you'll be heavily involved in future capital raising - pitching to investors and negotiating the best terms. In the next 3-4 years, it's likely you'll be responsible for taking the company through an IPO.

The finance team needs to cover a broad range of technical specialisms, and while we don't expect you to have all of these skills yourself, you should be comfortable working alongside very experienced specialists in these areas. More than anything, we are looking for a CFO who can challenge the founders and other executives to make better business decisions based on data. We expect you to help shape and define the strategy of the company over the next 4-5 years.

This role will report to the CEO, and will involve membership of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. You will chair our Assets and Liabilities Committee.
