Martlet does not concentrate on specific market sectors, and invests in a variety of entrepreneurial people and teams with an idea, an identified market, a recognised monetisation opportunity and excellent growth potential.

We provide small sums of capital (initially £25K to £100K) for early-stage technology start-ups that are located in the UK, with a bias towards Cambridge and London.

Martlet will always co-invest with angels and small seed funds, and has the capacity to follow in subsequent investment rounds.

Potential investees must demonstrate their potential for rapid growth and will usually possess a strong defensible position with respect to their technology, intellectual property and products.

We focus on companies that have completed the proof of concept stage, and usually will have achieved some sales or grant revenues. In all cases, there must be a strong and demonstrable commercial demand for the technology under development.

In addition to capital, we can offer support, experience and a network of contacts.

As part of the Marshall Group, which encompasses aviation, aerospace and commercial/consumer vehicles, has over £2 billion of sales and employs over 5000 people, our investees may have the opportunity to work with our operating companies. PETER COWLEY, Martlet Investment Director, is the main point of contact, and a group of senior Marshall executives will assist in choosing appropriate investments.

A seasoned Cambridge-based mentor and angel investor, Peter has a Cambridge University degree in Engineering and Computing Science, set up over 10 technology and property businesses in a 30 year entrepreneurial career.

Peter has personally been investing in high-growth startups (over 55 as of late 2016) for many years and is chairman of the Cambridge Angels. He was UK Business Angel of the Year in 2014/15 and is a fellow in Entrepreneurship of the Cambridge Judge Business School. He has been treasurer and chair of several charities in the advice, healthcare and education sectors."
